Peter is Chairman of "FoF". After 10 years of trapping introduced predators in a rugged area over 5000 hectares, this dedicated group of volunteers has reduced stoat numbers to some of the lowest in the country. This makes the Mount Arthur area one of the few areas, outside island sanctuaries, where endangered and declining species can be re-introduced. We, and several Resurgence guests, sponsored Des, our former groundsman, in his Long Walk to save the kiwis, 1250km down the length of South Island. In 2006 Whio (Blue Duck) bred in the Flora Stream for the first time in 12 years. In 2010 12 adult Great Spotted Kiwi (Roroa) were relocated by Friends of Flora and DOC into the Mount Arthur for the first time in 40 years. From 2009 for 3 years, The Resurgence is donating $5 per couple to Return of the Kiwi Project |
