responsible tourism - what it means to us

community & conservation

  • We are both Business Mentors
  • We donate used items to local schools or Nelson Recycling Centre
  • We are active members of Friends of Flora and "Friends" of Abel Tasman Birdsong Trust and Mangarakau Swamp community conservation groups.

  • friends of flora

Friends of Flora community conservation supported by the resurgence for work on the great spotted kiwi, whio and other native birds and ecosystems

Peter is Chairman of "FoF". After 10 years of trapping introduced predators in a rugged area over 5000 hectares, this dedicated group of volunteers has reduced stoat numbers to some of the lowest in the country. This makes the Mount Arthur area one of the few areas, outside island sanctuaries, where endangered and declining species can be re-introduced.

We make a donation to Friends of Flora for every guest staying at the resurgence nelson nz

We, and several Resurgence guests, sponsored Des, our former groundsman, in his Long Walk to save the kiwis, 1250km down the length of South Island.

Friends of flora FOF helped the return of the bluw duck whio to the flora valley kahurangi natinal park

In 2006 Whio (Blue Duck) bred in the Flora Stream for the first time in 12 years.

In 2010 12 adult Great Spotted Kiwi (Roroa) were relocated by Friends of Flora and DOC into the Mount Arthur for the first time in 40 years.

FOF Friends of flora return gtreat spotted kiwi roroa to the flora valley kahurangi
